Packing list for your Exmoor Micro Wedding weekend
Weddings, elopements and vow renewals can be magical, meaningful, and yes – sustainable. At My Tiny Exmoor Wedding, we believe in creating unforgettable moments that don’t cost the earth. The great news? A tiny wedding at one of our Exmoor cottages is already a more eco-conscious choice.
Fewer guests means less waste, lower travel emissions, and the freedom to choose suppliers who align with your values. And when your venue is a historic thatched cottage with its own gardens and charm, you need very little added sparkle.
1. Choose a naturally beautiful setting
Our cottages come with oodles of character, cottage gardens, and authentic, rustic details. That means less need for extra décor, rentals, or wasteful styling.
Eco win: Use what nature and history have already provided. Elegant cottages bursting with historical features, wooden beams, and a flower-filled garden make the perfect backdrop for your ceremony and photos.
2. Decorate with reusables, rented pieces and local florals
Think dried flower garlands, vintage candle holders, and rented tableware. Many of our couples use:
Dried or potted flowers that can be kept or gifted after the event
Local florists who use British-grown, seasonal blooms. Read about Aizel Finch, a local award-winning florist who grows many of the flowers she uses to decorate Pilgrim Corner.
Props we already have at the cottage (and you're welcome to use them!)
Eco win:
Less single-use plastic and imported flowers = a lower carbon footprint and less waste.
3. Embrace local food and drink
A micro wedding means you can splurge on quality, not quantity. We work with local caterers and artisan suppliers who source ingredients from Exmoor farms, and regional producers.
You could enjoy:
A farm-to-table grazing board
Locally-baked celebration cake
West Country wines or sparkling cider
Eco win: Supporting local producers reduces food miles and boosts the rural economy.
4. Send paper-free or plantable invitations
Instead of traditional printed invites, consider:
Stylish e-invites or wedding websites
Handmade seed paper invitations your guests can plant after the wedding
One beautiful printed invite for keeps, with the rest going digital
Eco win:
Less paper = less environmental impact, without compromising on creativity. Our local Eco Hero, Keith at Our Precious Earth in Minehead, is on hand to help with sourcing suppliers.
5. Thoughtful, sustainable favours – or go without
Favours aren’t required at a tiny wedding – your hospitality is the gift. But if you’d like to give something:
Try homemade jams, seed packets, or beeswax candles
Source from small, ethical businesses
Skip plastic packaging
Eco win: Choose favours with a purpose – or skip them altogether.
6. Dress with intention
There’s nothing more stylish than sustainability. Consider:
Buying pre-loved or vintage wedding outfits – you’ll be amazed at what you can source in charity shops
Choosing independent designers with eco-conscious fabrics
Donating or selling your outfit after the big day
Eco win: One more way to make fashion feel good.
The most powerful eco decision? Having a tiny wedding in the first place.
Fewer people = less travel, less waste, less stuff
More time to connect, be present, and enjoy your surroundings
A deeply personal experience, with a lighter footprint
Eco win: You’re already doing so much simply by choosing a micro wedding.
7. Keep it small – and that’s the point
Tiny, thoughtful, and totally you
An eco-conscious wedding doesn’t mean giving anything up – it means being thoughtful about what you really want. Beauty, intimacy, and sustainability go hand in hand when you choose My Tiny Exmoor Wedding.
