How to plan a micro wedding from afar

Your step-by-step guide to planning the perfect intimate wedding, even if you're miles away

Dreaming of a tiny wedding in a picturesque cottage on Exmoor… but not sure how to plan it from a distance? We’ve got you.

At My Tiny Exmoor Wedding, many of our couples live hours away – or even abroad – but still want to plan relaxed, beautiful, deeply personal weddings with ease. With fewer moving parts and a trusted team by your side, planning your micro wedding remotely can be not just possible, but genuinely enjoyable.

Here’s how to make it happen, step by step.

1. Choose the right location (Hint: You’re already close!)

Look for a venue that offers more than just space – you want a complete experience. Our weddings are held at Pilgrim Corner, a fairytale thatched cottage with accommodation, gardens, and all the charm you need for an intimate ceremony and stay. We also help you organise local accommodation for your guests.

✔️ One location
✔️ No travel between venues
✔️ All the essentials in place

2. Work with a supportive, local team

When you're planning from afar, your local contacts are everything. We’re here to help with recommendations for:

  • Photographers

  • Florists

  • Caterers

  • Celebrants

  • Hair & Makeup artists

  • And more

We’ve worked with talented local suppliers who understand the flow of a cottage wedding – and we’re happy to coordinate intros and help you shortlist the right people.

3. Book Your Key Dates & Accommodation Early

Once you’ve chosen your date, we’ll block out your stay at Pilgrim Corner if you are a party of eight or less. For up to 22, we’ll book our cottages right next door, The Old Sweet Shop and Stone Barn too. Our micro weddings are full of cosy luxury – and your wedding party will love being able to walk between cottages or enjoy Exmoor at their own pace.

Pro tip

Consider a weekday or off-peak date for more availability (and more peace and quiet on the moor!). Also, it’s cheaper. Yes, we know summer weddings are popular, but you are already breaking the mould with a micro wedding. Book off-peak and you’ll save £££s on the accommodation too.

4. Embrace virtual planning

Can’t pop down for a viewing or supplier meeting? No problem. We offer:

  • Video calls to walk you through the cottages and help visualise your day

  • Photo and video tours of the cottage and gardens

  • Help arranging virtual meet-and-greets with suppliers

  • Clear digital timelines and checklists to keep you on track

Whether you’re in Scotland or Sydney, we’re just a call or email away. And we are always available – there is no charge for that. Pamela, our dedicated celebrant, will have as many sessions with you as you need to prepare your vows and be ready for your special day. We don’t limit the support we offer you in our Complete Coordination fee.

5. Keep things simple, personal and clear

The beauty of a micro wedding is that you don’t need layers of logistics or multiple vendors. You can:

  • Write your own vows or choose a meaningful reading (or let Pamela help – all included in the fee)

  • Pick a single bouquet or small floral display

  • Enjoy a meal cooked in the cottage or delivered by a private chef

  • Style with props you can pack or borrow from us

Your wedding, your way – without overwhelm.

6. Ship or pack what you need

A tiny wedding doesn’t need much – but if you’re bringing outfits, decorations, or favours, plan ahead:

  • Pack essentials in carry-ons or keep them with trusted guests

  • Ship to us directly with advance notice (we’re happy to receive things!)

  • Bring versatile or collapsible items for easy transport

We’ll help you store and set up anything you need once you're here. And receiving and storing deliveries is included in the Complete Coordination fee.

7. Arrive and relax – We’ll take it from there

When you arrive in Exmoor, it’s time to breathe. You’re here. You’ve made it. And everything’s ready.

Take a walk on the moor, soak in the hot tub, pop the champagne – we’ve done the groundwork so you can enjoy every moment.

Your wedding isn’t just a day – it’s a peaceful, joyful experience from start to finish.

Final thought

Planning from afar might sound daunting, but with the right support and the simplicity of a micro wedding, it becomes part of the joy. You get to focus on what matters: your love, your people, and a beautiful place to say I do.
